Maps to promote local travel this summer
Summer is right around the corner, and people are itching to travel again. I know I'm planning a few weekend trips!
Many tourism marketing organizations have plans to increase local tourism. The Ontario government has introduced the Ontario Staycation Tax Credit, to entice people to explore their own backyards. Does your community have supports in place to promote local travel?
Here are some interesting road trip ideas in Ontario, and you'll notice maps are an important part of their marketing strategies.
Food Tours in Ontario
I see another day trip to Stratford in my future! Stratford's Chocolate Trail and Bacon & Ale Trail are a great reason to go visit some local shops. There are interactive Google Maps and printed maps for each of those self-guided tours.
And this Apple Pie Trail map caught my eye - with stops for galleries, wineries, museums, and food - lots of food! The Apple Pie Trail site has a lot of other tours - guided and self-guided. There's a Thornbury Sticky Bun Loop which links to a Strava route map, which is also available in the Apple Pie Trail app for iOS and Android. So they make it really easy to find your way!
Other themed road trips
On a road trip to the Maritimes a few years ago, I collected a lot of maps! One was an artisan trail map of Cape Breton Island, which will likely be my next long road trip. This map showcases art and craft businesses, and shows multiple scenic drives around the island between these businesses.
